Although Aron was born blind, he has had an incredible ear for music his whole life. At age 8, his grandmother brought him in for piano lessons, but he didn’t have a piano to practice on. When we saw how excited he was about learning, and that he could name any note by ear, even individual notes in chords of four or five notes, we knew we had someone special!
Shirley Hanrion had a beautiful 1875 Antique Howard Upright Grand Piano in her home that belonged to the late “Mr. Music” Sam Shiff. She wasn’t using it much so she wanted to find a home for it where it would be fully appreciated. She called us at MUSE, and we knew immediately that this would be a great fit for Aron. We had her write up the story of Mr. Shiff, and the history of the piano, (which stays with the piano), and then it was picked up at her house and delivered to Aron.
Now Aron plays piano on his special “Mr. Sam’s Music Piano”, which he will be able to use for as long as he stays in piano lessons… for FREE! Shirley Hanrion got a tax write-off for the full market value, and the story of Sam Shiff lives on.
This is the beauty of donating a piano to MUSE. Check out Aron's story on Youtube!
